Description

Ghosts and Legends of the Stage Coach Inn, by Allen Cornelison, explores the history and paranormal accounts of this fascinating building. The Moorehead Stagecoach Inn is a historic building located in Ida Grove, Iowa, United States. The Western Stage Line began to operate stagecoaches from Lizard Point in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Sergeant Bluff, located in Sioux City, Iowa, in the year of 1855, and in the following year John H. Moorehead began to build an inn over a Native American burial ground. It was completed in 1863, and it was the first building erected in Ida Grove. It served as the county courthouse until 1871. The building was also used as a post office, as well as for religious and educational, purposes.

The Moorehead Stagecoach Inn is now located in Moorehead Pioneer Park and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. Paranormal investigators like the author report hearing disembodied voices and whistling, as well as phantom footsteps. The unexplained rapid spinning of the spinning wheel display is also are often reported.
