Jeff Mudgett

His book, Bloodstains, takes readers through history, perhaps learning more than they wished to know about the terror and horror Holmes (his great-great-grandfather, Herman Webster Mudgett) reigned down upon innocent victims during the late 19th century.  Using the Holmes’ diaries, as depicted in the story,  Jeff Mudgett gives us a glimpse into mysteries yet unsolved.

For those who are not familiar with H. H. Holmes and his “Murder Castle” built during the  construction of the  World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893, Mudgett’s book, BLOODSTAINS, tells the story from a completely new angle, a personal history combined with methodical research into an ancestor no one would willingly claim. Herman Webster Mudgett was a swinder, a con man, a womanizer and, at his worst, H. H. Holmes, the most atrocious serial killer of all time.

The success of BLOODSTAINS has been a phenomena for a self-published, first time author. Turning down offers from publishers, Mudgett decided to keep control of the book and the way the story was told – his acquaintance with the subject matter couldn’t be turned over to editors and publishers to change. BLOODSTAINS is Jeff Mudgett’s story and Jeff Mudgett’s book.

During his obsession with truth, he was inflicted with seizures from an unknown origin. A hidden brain tumor was determined to be the culprit, but through the encounters with information and “haunted” locations, he wondered if he was also inflicted with the “Holmes Curse.”  A diagnosis of epilepsy is the explanation and Mudgett often speaks to organizations such as the Epilepsy Foundation in an attempt to educate others about epilepsy and bring awareness to resources available for anyone with the diagnosis.

Since the release of Bloodstains Jeff Mudgett has presented to audiences some of the documented evidence contained in the book, enhancing many unanswered questions left for the reader to decide, the most controversial, could H. H. Holmes and Jack the Ripper be one and the same?

He took a trip to the site of the “Murder Castle” in Chicago where he was filmed in the original basement, a place where many refused to go. Mudgett’s real time experience in the bowels of the location where Holmes performed many nefarious deeds will be shown on a major network in the near future. He has been extensively interviewed on radio and television, including an extended interview with Ancestry.Com and the Chicago Sun Times.

Jeff Mudgett resides in Las Vegas, NV where he is working on two new books, Letting Love Live, which delves into the question, “can pure evil love?” The second book, Before the Eyes of Men, is a fictional account of Spanish gold off the  California coast.
